About the Author
Apostle Leslie D. Richardson is the founding pastor of My Father’s House International Christian Discipleship Center. He and his wife, Pastor Lily R. Richardson, are the vision-bearers of this awesome ministry located in Denver, Colorado. Pastor Richardson is the third child of four children born to Deacon O.J. and Pastor Geraldine Richardson. His parents (and late grandmother) are in the ministry, making Pastor Richardson a third-generation preacher of the Gospel. Pastor Richardson is a native of Lansing, Michigan, where he received his formal education. He studied Architectural Drafting at the Lansing Community Design Center, received his biblical training under Bishop Earl O. Holiman (Pastor of Bethsaida Temple Christian Center in Denver, Colorado), and additional training at the Marilyn Hickey Bible College. Pastor Richardson’s first pastoral assignment was as acting pastor at the Original Church of God, located at 72nd Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. After commuting between Denver and Chicago for ministry for over 2½ years, the Lord led to him to launch the ministry of My Father’s House in Denver. After much prayer and fasting, and counseling from his pastor and mentor, Bishop Holiman, Pastor Richardson obeyed the mandate. His two sons, Leslie II and Marcus, his sister Diane, and a few others, were the initial members of My Father’s House. With the call of God on his life, and nothing but the Word of God, the Lord led him to launch the ministry of My Father’s House in Denver, Colorado. Pastor Richardson began evangelizing the Denver community with his “Crying In The Wilderness” radio ministry—and the Lord added to the Church such as should be saved. Today he is still “Crying in the Wilderness” on radio, television, and on the Internet. The Lord has given Pastor Richardson the vision to disciple God’s people, a gift to unlock the mysteries contained in God’s Holy Word, and an anointed, apostolic, and prophetic ministry. Warning: the ebook does not match the print book. I was unable to do my assignments because the question numbers do not align at all.

Use this book for a course I teach in a college-level course in astronomy of the solar system for non-science majors. It's OK, but not great. It lacks some basic physics that I add on my own, for example, the equation for calculating ideal planet temperature based on simple radiation heat transfer. This is something that should be included in a college-level astronomy course. There are a few other tings like this as well that should be in the book but are not.

Most introductory astronomy texts take the descriptive approach and subject the student to very little mathematics. Such tomes assume that the student is taking the course to fulfill a core science requirement or to satiate non-technical interest. This text is a rare exception to this rule.Throughout the book simple explanations of the scientific phenomena discussed are detailed using algebra and trigonometry. Basic formulas are illustrated and ample problems are given to drive home the mathematical nature of astronomy. This text is perfect for the freshman or sophomore science major who requires a deeper knowledge of astronomy than a non-mathematical text could provide.Make no mistake, the text can be used easily in a general astronomy class that requires no math prerequisites. However, for the physics or astronomy major who is just starting her study of the subject, this text is the perfect blend of description and mathematics. It would also make a fine introductory graduate text for elementary and high-school teachers who wish to pursue a master's degree.The software on the enclosed CD-ROM disks makes visualizing the concepts presented within the text much easier. If one's physics department doesn't have access to a planetarium the software offered remedies the problem quite nicely.

Required for a college astronomy class, and it arrived quickly and with all materials in act. It is not the most robustly made book, but that seems somewhat typical for college books of this size. Overall, it was usable for the class while it was needed.

Very amusing to see an author reviewing his own book and two other "reviewers" putting in comments that should be directed to a customer feedback department rather than a book review! I wish to redress a wrong. My father did a university intro astronomy course in the 70s and the standard textbook then was "Exploration of the Universe", which I still have. "Universe" is light years ahead in presentation with magnificent illustrations, "Starry Night Enthusiast" planetarium software and other internet accessible items which graphically illustrate key concepts so beautifully. For example, supernova explosions, but there are dozens of things. I'm also a big fan of Dr Alex Filippenko who has done a DVD astronomy course and is co-author of "The Cosmos", a very similar book. As with "Exploration of the Universe" all of these books start with explanations of "local" phenomena, proceed logically to planets, stars, galaxies and finally cosmology, the biggest picture. However I think "Universe" is the best I've seen because of the accompanying CD and extras, and because it is written very clearly and lucidly. It's not at all dry like "Exploration of the Universe". Also very detailed. And apparently I'm not alone because I notice "Universe" is a mandatory textbook for some of the online "Astronomy Masters" courses, such as that at James Cook University. There are review questions at the end of each chapter for those seeking mathematical or problematic challenges, but the text is complete in itself. My interest in astronomy is at the level of enthusiastic amateur astronomer, and this book gives a thorough and well balanced background, something that increases the "wow" factor as you gaze through your telescope at the amazing, vast wonders of our universe, making me perceive the trivial pettiness of my own problems. Astronomy is a "cerebral" interest, you have to think about it to really appreciate it. Finally thanks to Dr Freedman for his review of his own book! I wish more authors would be involved in the Amazon promotion of their products, and customer responses. He shouldn't feel immodest at promoting it with five stars. The book deserves them!

Wow I see there already printing the 8th edition.Bought used Universe author Kaufmann 4th edition as a backup reference book for this amateur astronomers observatory. This will allow others to reference items if other books are being read by someone else. Universe 4th edition is about late high school/freshman college level. Lots of good reference information and good pictures on a well rounded variety of subjects. No real difficult math. For the beginning astronomer or late high school/freshman college student taking their first astronomy course. Maybe just a tad more math would be needed for a ASTRO101 College course. Still for the reason I bought the book its worth it.3 1/2 star rating.

The universe with William Shatner. I saw this program once in maybe 1975. It was on tv at 6 am in the morning. I looked for this for many years. Was happy to finally find a copy of VHS. Interesting program about the Universe narrated by William Shatner. A little dated but most of the information is still very current. Well done program and interesting to have it narrated by William Shatner.

About the Author

Okeoghene Odudu is a Lecturer in Competition law at King's College London, where he teaches US Antitrust, EC State Aid and State Regulation Law, EC and UK Competition Law, and EU Law. Odudu read law as an undergraduate at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and received an MA in Criminology from Keele University. He was a graduate student at Keble College, Oxford, where he competed a DPhil. He was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship and spent a year at Harvard conducting research in US antitrust. After being awarded a DPhil in law from Oxford University Odudu was elected Fellow in law at Downing College, Cambridge where he taught EU and Administrative law.
